Patxi's Pizza coming to Santa Barbara

Patxi's Pizza (pronounced pah-cheese), a popular Chicago deep-dish and Italian thin crust mini-chain (Bay Area and Denver) is set to land at 515 State Street (the former Territory Ahead space) in the Spring of 2014.

Hooray! It’s National Cheese Pizza Day!

They apparently have baked dough styled with four types of mozzarella and 30+ toppings. Mmmmmmm. 'Za-riffic!

India House Restaurant is for sale

Looks like it has been listed on BizBen.

Current establishment India House invites you to explore the vast possibilities. Located in the heart of historical downtown Santa Barbara and just couple of blocks from Sterns Warf, a unique opportunity for the entrepreneurial restaurateur. Many popular night spots surround India House, including 99Cents next door and Velvet Jones across the street.

The existing dining space allows seating for 165 people, but there is an area in the back which could make a nice garden area with space for an additional 100 people. The retail area has a long walkway, storeroom and warehouse in the back. The warehouse could potentially be used as another storeroom. The entryway doors and windows, patio, bathrooms, and kitchen are newly built two years ago. Many other recent improvements have also been made.

The listing price includes all kitchen fixtures, plates, cookware, and edible stock. Beer and Wine License 41 included in asking price. Retail merchandise is negotiable at additional cost.

The newest foodie adventure - Dishcrawl

has hit Santa Barbara. What an interesting and delicious way to explore the foods offered up here in town. The inaugural Dishcrawl Santa Barbara event will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. and for $45 (which includes the price of food) you get to visit four different restaurants and meet the chefs and fellow local foodies. "Meet & Eat."
It’s like a pub crawl, but with food! Food experience innovator Dishcrawl serves up a “meet and eat” event the San Jose Mercury News recently called the “hot, foodie social event sweeping the Bay Area.” The concept is simple: join dozens of other food lovers as you eat your way through downtown Santa Barbara. Spend your night uncovering gourmet dishes at nearby eateries, meeting local chefs and restaurateurs, and bonding with your neighbors over creations and locations you’ve never tried before.

Dishcrawl uses the concept of culinary social networking to capture the imagination and appetite of Santa Barbara foodies. Dishcrawl gives neighbors and neighborhoods a chance to meet, greet and share a heaping portion of delicious fun. Participating restaurants are kept secret but hints are slowly revealed leading up to the event.

The ivy on the old State & A

State & A Restaurant

as shown in this old picture.....is no more.
It has been removed leaving a big blank ugly wall.

I know that the restaurant is undergoing renovations, but it still is sad to see such lovely greenery stripped away.

$105,000 a month rent

Who can afford to pay that? Apparently Borders' downtown Santa Barbara couldn't. (per a very loud cellphone conversation I overheard in downtown SB today.)

Chino's Rock and Tacos....toast? UPDATED

Walking around on State Street this afternoon, I noticed that the sidewalk tablesetting outside Chino's Rock and Tacos was gone and their windows were butcher papered up.

Have they packed up their guacamole and gone or are they just redecorating? There was no sign up mentioning anything....

UPDATE: Yep. Their Taco joint is TOAST.

Anyone have a clue?

Zia Cafe closing?

Zia Cafe
Originally uploaded by santa barbarian.

There is a HUGE "for lease" sign hanging from the second floor of the Zia Cafe. (I noticed while attending the Farmer's Market this afternoon...)

Another casualty of the "sucky" economy?

Where will I go for my sopapillas?

What a warm welcome for Whole Foods

someone tagged their temporary sign on State Street. Graffiti greetings...so sad.

Is it just me or is graffiti really getting out of hand here in town?

French Press opening on July 14th

Regading the Hummingbird Cafe leaving post, I received a couple of responses clarifying a few things...

1) Hiya, this is Amesia from Arcobaleno Trade...and, yes, we are still here. Joining us is the French Press another locally owned business dealing in ethically sourced goods (her's being coffee and treats!) July 14th is our Grand Opening. It's Bastille Day! Thanks Santa Barbara for supporting local business...

2) hi, it's julia from the French Press. Here is a little bit about my business, which, as amesia said, is coming soon on july 14!

Hello Santa Barbara, it is so nice to see you. We’ve spent the last 10 years becoming fanatical about coffee and espresso, about brewing it, about talking about it and definitely about drinking it! So here we are! The FRENCH PRESS! We are working quickly to create a space for all of us to explore the world of coffee - and espresso - in a format that is not now available in Santa Barbara. Using micro roasted coffees sourced fairly and with love, and exceptional brewing methods, such as french presses and vacuum pots (and our beautiful La Marzocco espresso machine that is on its way from Florence as we speak!), we will guarantee a unique and amazing experience every time.

We also love snacks and treats, and know how lovely a fresh baked cookie tastes in the afternoon. We are looking forward to providing Santa Barbara with a truly exceptional product in a beautiful setting! So come see us soon for a sandwich or salad, a cookie or a croissant, and a pot of tea or a macchiato. We can’t wait to meet you!

I know I'll be stopping by for a macchiato...hope you will, too!
