Lompoc Wine Ghetto

It's been featured as one of 25 hidden gems and delicious destinations in the latest issue. The writer notes that the movie "Sideways" put Santa Barbara County and its pinot noirs back on the map in 2004. But now, a new generation of young wine makers is fiddling with the idea of traditional tasting rooms. The article names Lompoc Wine Ghetto as one of those examples. It says despite the florescent-lit industrial complex behind Home Depot, visitors can see a passion that's every bit as beautiful as those "scenic Napa cliches." - KSBY

White House Chef Sam Kass

was on NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me playing "Not My Job"....
Sam Kass was working as a private chef in Chicago when one of his clients got a new job, so he moved with that client to Washington, D.C., where he now cooks in large building with an Oval Office, a rose garden ... and a tiny kitchen. He's the first family's personal chef and an important player in Michelle Obama's healthful food initiative.
Very funny. Take a listen.

Albertsons is slashing it's workforce in SoCal

"Ever since SuperValu purchased Albertsons, they have had difficulty running conventional grocery stores," Conger added. The company specializes in big box stores, he explained. Asked if he thought the company was going about fixing problems the right way, Conger said he could answer that question better if he knew the problem they were trying to fix. "Most companies look at pricing and see if they are competitive. You never see layoffs like this," he said. - Business Week
