Starbuck Buys Teavana

so next time you are in Paseo Nuevo Mall, stop into Teavana and say hello to the newest "sister" of Starbucks.

Starbucks Corp. completed its acquisition of Atlanta-based Teavana Holdings Inc. this week, “promising to reinvent the way the world enjoys tea,” wrote Jeff Hansberry, Starbucks president of channel development and emerging brands, in a blog posted Monday.

The $620 million cash transaction was first revealed in November. The move makes the more than 300-unit Teavana retail chain a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seattle-based Starbucks.

Hansberry wrote that while some of Teavana’s product lineups may change, “most of the Teavana experience will stay the same and several new additions will be offered.” - Restaurant News

Starbucks and "The Siren" Turn 40...

and the freespirited Mermaid gets a "make over."

This new evolution of the logo does two things that are very important: It embraces and respects our heritage, and at the same time evolves us to a point where we feel it's more suitable for the future... The new interpretation of the logo, at its core, is the exact same essence of the Starbucks experience. And that is the love we have for our coffee, the relationship we have with our partners, and the connection we build with our customers. What I think we've done is we've allowed her to come out of the circle in a way that I think gives us the freedom and flexibility to think beyond coffee. - via Eater and Starbucks.com
Starbucks is also celebrating with an artisan breakfast sandwich for $2.00 from January 4-10. Have you tried it yet? Starbucks Gossip wants to know.

Probably not coming to a Starbucks near you

"Inhalable" coffee. Le Whif.

First there was the chocolate aerosol that gave chocoholics all the flavour without the calories of their favourite snack.

Now the same scientists have come up with the coffee spray that gives you as much caffeine as found in one single espresso.

...The sticks are sold individually for $3 or in boxes of three for $8. Each stick delivers 100 milligrams of caffeine, the equivalent of a cup of espresso.

A 'whiffer' can get up to nine hits from an individual stick, depending on how hard they inhale.

All of Le Whifs are biodegradable, organic and contain less than one calorie

Re: the Starbuck Venta

a clarification is in order.

The Trenta size (31 oz.) is only being offered in certain markets..."hot" markets like Phoenix and Tampa...you know those places where a large, iced anything hits the right spot! It is simply a new item the caffeinated elves at Starbucks are testing in response to their customers asking for larger iced tea and coffee. Trenta is only available for iced teas and iced coffees. Unsweetened the beverages are less than 5 calories, but even a sweetened iced coffee or tea in a Trenta cup would be less than 200 calories. (Might I add it would be a h**l of a lot "skinnier" than any humungous soda...and in my view, much tastier, too....)

While the rest of the world is "downsizing"

Is Starbucks really thinking about "UpSizing?" It was first the "short", "tall" and "grande", then the "tall", "grande" and "venti"...now are they going to add the "Trenta?" Do we really need a "Big Gulp®" Frappaccino?

The new trenta cup at starbucks...yes it's bigger than a vent... on Twitpic
Web site callmethirsty.com has calculated that the impact of some drinks can exceed 700 calories. And Starbucks' own nutrition page allows you to minutely track the calories for each extra dollop of cream.

But now the math is about to get even more complicated, and the drinks that much more fattening, as Starbucks is test-marketing a gargantuan new serving size... - Seattle Weekly

The 32-ounce Trenta has gotten buzz on Twitter and Facebook, and a Starbucks Gossip reader says a friend just got back from Phoenix, where they were demoing a Trenta iced cup. What's the word on this? A national roll-out coming soon? - Starbucks Gossip

Value Meals coming to a Starbucks near you

Step aside Mickey D's and Subservient Chicken King....Value Meals are coming to Bucko's.

The allure of the value meal has long seduced penny-pinchers craving a cheeseburger. Now, as the dismal economy slurps up profits, Starbucks Corp. is hoping to find some sales salvation in its own value meal variety.

Starbucks has yet to offer many details about what Chief Executive Howard Schultz described to investors last week as "several breakfast
pairings" at "attractive" prices. More details are expected as early as later
this week. -

Starbucks "Happy Hours" in the afternoons (but only if you've visited them in the morning....)
Looking to bring more value-seeking consumers through its doors for a late afternoon caffeine fix, Starbucks Corp. said it will now offer its morning customers any iced grande beverage for $2 after 2 p.m.

The price is a big cut from the normal price of most grande-sized iced drinks. A grande iced latte, for example, costs about $4. To get the discount, customers must present a receipt from their morning Starbucks visit.

The promotion was previously only offered in Seattle, Chicago and Miami. The company said it is taking it nationwide beginning Tuesday to answer consumers' calls for more value at the chain, which has seen traffic drop as gas prices rise and consumer spending falters. It runs until Sept. 2. - Associated Press

Missing Jamba Juice on State Street, Downtown SB?

Starbucks is launching Vivanno, a new line of smoothies on July 15th. (Although some stores have been jumping the gun...)
Signs in at least four coffee shops in Los Angeles and Chicago said the smoothies, called "Vivanno Nourishing Blends," will hit stores on July 15. Employees at stores in New York, Washington and San Francisco also confirmed the launch of new smoothies next week.

Starbucks would not comment on it.

A Washington, D.C. store gave out samples, saying the drink will have 250 calories.  - Reuters
Starbucks officials wouldn’t say anything more about the smoothies, but the in-store signs pretty much said it all, including that the drinks would come in orange-mango-banana and banana-chocolate flavors - Reuters blog

Artisan Coffees and Pastries...with a Star Chef Twist

This could be an interesting combo....
This fall season, Starbucks is collaborating with renowned chef Marcus Samuelsson to give customers a taste of its new campaign, "Coffee is Culinary." Coupled with Samuelsson's epicurean expertise, Starbucks is introducing two new exquisite coffee blends — Starbucks Joya del Dia Blend and Starbucks Ubora Blend; delectable bakery items; and a cookbook exclusively offered in stores. For more information, visit www.starbucks.com.
Samuelsson is an intriguing choice to pair up with as he is originally from Ethiopia, the land of coffee.

Coffee blends with a caramelized apple pecan coffee cake or a chocolate cinnamon bread seem somewhat mundane, but recipes featured by Samuelsson are a bit more tantalizing.... Mango Couscous, Beef Stir-Fry, Pineapple Cashew Salad (pdf)

Seattleist notes...
In Seattle this week for the third stop in a 22-day, 10-city culinary tour, Samuelsson cooked up a Pan-African plate of spicy Ethiopean beef and aromatic Moroccan couscous while Linneman brewed some Ukora in a French press. The combination was astonishingly smooth and flavorful, with the coffee's floral notes providing a counterpoint to the fragrance and heat of the berbere chilies in the meat. Around the room (the Starbucks in Madison Park), nips and sips and sighs of shared contentment. Ubuntu at work. Who knew coffee could be so complex and enriching?

Starbucks knew
Frantic Foodie got into one of the tastings on the tour. 100's of people showed up at the St. Arbucks Hollywood & Highland.
