Starbuck Buys Teavana

so next time you are in Paseo Nuevo Mall, stop into Teavana and say hello to the newest "sister" of Starbucks.

Starbucks Corp. completed its acquisition of Atlanta-based Teavana Holdings Inc. this week, “promising to reinvent the way the world enjoys tea,” wrote Jeff Hansberry, Starbucks president of channel development and emerging brands, in a blog posted Monday.

The $620 million cash transaction was first revealed in November. The move makes the more than 300-unit Teavana retail chain a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seattle-based Starbucks.

Hansberry wrote that while some of Teavana’s product lineups may change, “most of the Teavana experience will stay the same and several new additions will be offered.” - Restaurant News

Chocolate Opulence in Paseo Nuevo for sale?

looks like it just might be.
The store is very elegantly decorated and the smooth plaster walls create an amazing finishing touch. The store is located in a busy outdoor mall next to very busy retail stores and major anchor tenants. Sells gourmet artisan chocolates, serves chocolate dipped strawberries, medallions, and serves a unique sipping chocolate for those who enjoy drinking rich dark chocolate. Authentic French macaroons are also sold and have proven to be a very popular item. The current location has only been opened for 5 months and has proven itself to be very successful. - BizBen

Eureka Burger

is coming to 601 Paseo Nuevo next year to serve up their gourmet burgers and craft beer. I'm sure that they will have a facebook page soon, like the closest "sister" restaurant, EurekaBurgerSLO

Chef Ron Guidone, the renowned Los Angeles-based exec chef of Talia's and Mangiamo in Manhattan Beach, is behind the innovative menu of fine burger cuisine set to be offered. Should be an interesting addition to Paseo Nuevo.

According to their website, Chocolate Opulence is opening up a storefront in Paseo Nuevo in August 2011. They already have a store down in the Marketplace at Santa Monica Place in Santa Monica.
Chocolate Opulence is the dream-concept of owner and chocolate connoisseur Terry Perretz. His goal is to make fine, French artisan chocolates available to everyone.  His motto is, “Fine chocolate is an indulgence that everyone should be able to experience!”

Chocolate Opulence

apparently is going into the space last occupied by one of those paint yourself ceramics places in Paseo Nuevo right across from Rudy's. Well...according to a sign in the window. The mall is looking pretty, well, "bleak" of late.

WhoDidily Cupcakes coming to downtown Santa Barbara

WhoDidily cupcakes of Montecito is taking their baking racks on the road and opening up a new storefront in Paseo Nuevo, in the space where the departed Cheese Shop was.

WhoDidily has gotten lots of press in the past couple of years. They were featured on FoodNetwork's Cupcake Wars last year. Then before that, they had a little legal rumble with the 800lb gorilla of the cupcake world, Sprinkles. (That was when WhoDidily was known as Sprinkled Pink Cupcake Couture.)

The local cupcake batter battle gets a little heated. We'll see how the crumbs settle with Crushcakes and Bella Dolce seeing new competition in their midst.

Viva Oliva opening up in Paseo Nuevo

An olive oil shop, looking a bit too similar to Il Fustino (complete with stainless steel fustis) is opening up in Paseo Nuevo. They are still under construction, but I managed to get a peek through the butcher paper covering the windows.
