Cookievore Criminals

Looks like some girl scout cookie loving criminals are on the loose. Those cookie monsters made off with 5,000 boxes of the treats. That's just so wrong...on so many levels.

We’ve all got our favorite type of Girl Scout cookie, and it appears lowdown, dirty thieving scoundrels who would steal from the young scouts are no exception. Someone made off with almost $19,000 worth of cookies from a South Carolina warehouse — all of them either of the thin mints or shortbread variety. - Consumerist

Who would do such a thing?

Buying Girl Scout cookies with fake money.
A Girl Scout near Boston found out the soullessness of some cookie consumers the hard way, when she took the haul her troop made off the treats to her local bank. Once there, she was informed that someone had passed her $80 in counterfeit $20 bills, says WBZ News.

"This is a very unfortunate situation that someone would do this at all, especially for the Girl Scouts," said Allison Rubin, the media and public relations manager for the Girls Scouts of Eastern Mass. "We really want to appreciate and say thank you to everyone. We are not soliciting outside funding, but we really appreciate their support."

The troop was trying to fund a hiking trip in May as well as a gathering on Cape Cod, and are now $80 farther from their goal. - The Consumerist

Do they get badges for customer service?

Girl Scouts are fielding complaints about their cookies.
When Beverly Knight bit into her Girl Scout cookies this year, the disappointment was bitter. The peanut butter sandwich was too dry. The shortbread had a funny aftertaste. She didn’t immediately complain to the girl who sold her the cookies, but she intended to tell her she wouldn’t be buying those again next year.

Girl Scouts across the Southeast have been dealing with customer complaints and boxes of stale cookies as they run their largest annual fundraiser. A switch in bakers has them explaining new names and tastes. And a leaky warehouse roof has tainted some peanut butter cookies sold throughout the Southeast — both patties and sandwiches. - LJWorld.com

Just when you plan to start a diet....

The Girl Scout Cookie Season is set to begin.
In 1917, enterprising Oklahoma Girl Scouts held a bake sale to raise money for a service project. And, although Girl Scouts themselves haven't done the baking since 1936, the Girl Scout Cookie Sale has become an American icon – and empowered millions of girls.

Order taking for the annual fundraiser starts Friday. Eight varieties are offered, including a sugar-free version of the American classic chocolate chip cookie, and the brand-new Lemon Chalet Cremes, with a hint of cinnamon and ginger spice. All of the favorites have returned: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoil shortbreads, Do-Si-Dos and All Abouts. - Nashua Telegraph

A True Cookie Monster

Emphasis on the MONSTER. Definately not the cute, cuddly blue one we know and love.
If you think you’ve gotten used to news about crime -- brace yourself for the latest. This time, police tell us, a guy stole Girl Scout cookies from a 7-year-old girl trying to sell them.

...“Girls are selling Girl Scout cookies outside their house on the little table and he said he wanted to buy some cookies and she gave him a box of Tagalongs, and he grabbed them and said, ‘Catch me if you can’ and took off,” said Lt. Steve Rose with the Sandy Springs Police Department. - wsbtv.com
someone tries to make off with my girl scout cookies, I'd go to town in trying to earn my self defense badge right quick.

Gun Toting Granny Don't Want No Do-Si-Doh's

Apparently, some folks don't like this time of year....Girl Scout Cookie season.
Terry Tedder looked forward to helping his 8-year-old daughter sell Girl Scout cookies in their St. Louis neighborhood Tuesday night. He'll never forget their second stop.

Tedder said when he knocked on the door, a man started yelling profanities and told him to go away.

"I said, 'Hey I got my daughter with me,' said Tedder. "I said, 'We're just selling Girl Scout cookies.'"

Tedder said he started walking away when the door opened, revealing an unwelcome surprise.

"It was his mother and she was pointing a double-barreled shotgun at me and she's like, 'I'm going to shoot you so I took off running,'" said Teddler. - WCSH6.com
I'm ordering up some from my local Girl Scout Troop here in Santa Barbara, Tres Condados...and, Girl Scout cookies aren't just for little snacks anymore!
