Congrats to the new Top Chef, Michael Voltaggio

although, I was hoping for the other brother Voltaggio brother (Bryan) or Kevin to win, it certainly was a terrific finale. Congrats!

I'm delighted that you and your brother have created an online site too, so we can keep up with you.
Hey everyone. Welcome to our new website, VoltaggioBrothers.com. Michael & I are excited to launch this site, which is going to be a community for people like us; people who love food. Really, truly love food. We are going to be posting all kinds of exciting things here so make sure you sign up and introduce yourselves! Each day we will be posting about ingredients, recipes, technique, cooking gadgets…you name it. Our goal is to bring about the same excitement in you that we personally feel about our craft. We're hoping you become an active member and help us build this site together from the ground up. - VoltaggioBrothers.com

Trader Joe's is previewing a new website

All "flash-y" with Elvis tending the sample bar.
And we've created a fun (we think), different (you'll see), new website design. Want to be among the first to preview it? We thought you might. Click HERE to experience the new "Trader Joe's Virtual Store That Still Does Not Sell Anything" website design.

And if you want to share your thoughts on said design, we'd love to hear them. Send us an email to websitefeedback@traderjoes.com.

and just a note...Trader Joe's pistachios are NOT on the recall list.

Good Guide

Good news for those who want to know.
GoodGuide, a Web site that rates the impact of a wide range of consumer products on health and the environment, is adding more than 30,000 packaged foods to its database today in response to user demand.

"The No. 1 request from users was food information. People wanted us to rate food on: What is in it? Is it safe? Where is it from?" said GoodGuide founder Dara O'Rourke, an associate professor of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at UC Berkeley.

Among the companies and products examined are Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Nabisco, Heinz, Hains, Celestial Seasoning, Yoplait, Kashi and even Boca Burgers.

....Other factors taken into account include whether the product includes genetically modified organisms, trans fat or fructose. Information is available on how far packaged foods were shipped, whether the animals used to make them were treated humanely and if products are Fair Trade or organically certified.

"We rate the additives, colors, etcetera, and ask if they are hazardous," said O'Rourke, adding, "We have colors used here that are banned in Europe."

Shoppers with an interest in corporate behavior also will find useful information. Users will see, for example, that Horizon milk was purchased by Dean Foods, a large corporate dairy that has been criticized for the treatment of its cows. -

Opentable.com. I LOVE it!

When traveling, I love to get in my reservations to restaurants early, especially that foodie city by the bay, San Francisco. I have often been known to book a restaurant before I even book a room, and, on one occassion, a flight.

The service that I use and love is Opentable.com. The Cincinnati Enquirer has an article on this fantastic, handy webservice.

Whether it's snagging a table at a hot new place or finding a reservation for a special occasion -- such as Valentine's Day, the second-most-popular day for dining out behind Mother's Day, according to the National Restaurant Association -- more diners are turning to the Web for their reservations.

Restaurant managers say OpenTable lets customers make reservations any time, prevents overbooking and - because the service sends 24-hour reminders and follow-up e-mails - cuts down on the number of no-shows.

....OpenTable started in San Francisco in 1998, when a dot-com entrepreneur's wife became frustrated as she scrambled to make reservations one night.

It's a free service for customers and is growing at an ever expanding waistline rate with more restaurants in more cities added daily. If you haven't used it...try it. I'm sure you'll like it!
