HAPPY TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE DAY!

Originally uploaded by shawn_broes. One of the best times I've had during the Holiday Season was to help out with decorating the Rose Parade Floats. The City of La Canada-Flintridge takes their float building very seriously as a community. They actually set up the float building area underneath the freeway and then slowly haul it down to Pasadena when it's finished the night before the big day...hoping that the float will fit beneath the underpasses it encounters along the way.
The year my friend Brian came down to help out, we had to "recreate the recipe" for "skin tone" by blending rice, seeds, cinnamon and a few other organic items. We managed to break 4 blenders and came out with a skin tone that was, well, a bit more "ethnic" than perhaps La Canadians were used to. Hard, messy work but great fun. Hey...Mike Rowe...there's a Dirty Job for you to do for next year....Glue pampas grass, etc. on floats!
