My Cookbook Haul - Part 2

Oh...yeah. I was in cookbook heaven. More from my "haul"

The Los Angeles Times California Cookbook (1981) - $1
All time classic with a smattering of tastes from every culture known to be in LaLaLand.

Pasadena Prefers - Junior League of Pasadena (1964) - $2.50
The classic Junior League cookbook from Pasadena. I think this was their first and started their string of cookbook hits. It sold over 54,000 copies back then.

Sunny Side Up - Shining examples of food and wine from Fort Lauderdale - Junior League of Fort Lauderdale (1981) - $4.50
Yes. Another Jr. League cookbook. This is spiral bound with a fun illustration of the sun and sea on the cover and delightful drawings inside.

Quiche Cookbook (1976) - $1
I love quiche. This is a smallish book chock full of variations with delightful illustrations.

The Savory Way (1990) - $7
OK...I splurged. But you have to with a classic like this. Deborah Madison won the IACP Best Cookbook of the Year award with this one!

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream & Dessert Cookbook (1987) - $1.50
Fun. Frivolous. Hopefull I can recreate my favorite B&J - Tuskeegee Chunk.

Bluegrass Winners. A Cookbook. (1985) - $3.50
Yes. I already have this one, but I'm thinking this might make a good gift for someone with the holidays coming up.

Justice is Served. Quips, Quotes and Recipes. (2002) $3.50
Very fun spiral bound cookbook from the folks of JudicialFlavors.com. How can you not resist a cookbook with recipe titles as "Felonious Potatoes", "It Pleases the Court Chowder", "Exculpatory Casserole" and "Bread Out On Bail"

Seasoned with Sun
- Recipes from the Corner of Texas and Old Mexico (1989) - $4
Another Junior League Cookbook...this time from the spicy folks down in El Paso. One of the reasons I love the Jr. League cookbooks so much is that you can get some really "regional" original recipes. This particular one combines Native American, Spanish, Mexican and "Wild West" all together in a delicious spiral bound. I also have their second book "Seasoned with Fun" so thought I needed the companion book.

Stay tuned for Cookbook Haul Part 3!

Here's a sample recipe from Seasoned with Sun.

Pumpkin Bread
    Yield: 2 loaves
    Oven: 325 degrees

  • 3 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 16-ounce can pumpkin
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 8-ounce bag pecans, chopped

In large mixing bowl, mix all dry ingredients until well blended. Gradually add pumpkin, oil, water and eggs.
Stir in pecans. Pour batter into 2 greased 9x5x3-inch loaf pans and bake 1 1/2 hours.

The best pumpkin bread we've found.

This is excellent. At least, I don't have to figure out which books to buy. I'll take your word for it. ;)

You're going to have so much fun with all these cookbooks, I'm envious!

Yummy pumpking bread. Thanks for the recipe.
