Another State Street Business Bites the Dust
and another one being born from its dust.
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf's branch next to the Granada (1226 State Street) has come to a "grinding" halt. Paper is now lining it's windows...it's waving goodbye. There are still other branches of the coffee giant operational....
What used to be Gisella's Trattoria (and for us really old timers....the old Paul Bhalas) looks like it might, eventually, open as a restaurant named Jane (run by the Montecito Cafe folks....)

Well I'll miss it a bit. So strange -- I know it's in proximity to Starbucks, but I figured that location of Coffee Bean would do well. It's one of the few places to get a great cup of tea in town, and I liked it better than the tiny, TINY branch lower on State (which is in need of renovation or some really deep cleaning).

I'm sorry to see it go. It was so much more peaceful than Starbuck's. Noise levels almost always lower, not just because of having fewer customers, but because the music was played more softly and the walls and ceiling (I think) were less likely to bounce sounds back around the place.
That relative quiet has become a rare thing in Santa Barbara, as in so many other places. Too bad.
